Why our office looks like Chuck E. Cheese

We have been having some behavior issues that we are trying to work out with Xander, nothing new, but things we'd like to get a grasp on: going to bed, staying in bed, not hitting his brother, listening when mom and dad ask him to do things.
We tried a sticker chart with a little success at first, but then he became pretty indifferent.  We even tried to give him prizes when he got four stickers, but it ended up something like this:  Mom: "well, now you don't get a sticker." Xander:  "what are you going to do with the sticker, are you going to throw it away, are you going to give it to Flint, are you going to keep it mom?"  See, not too distraught.
So I was thinking he should earn tickets and when he had enough he could get a prize, that way he had something tangible to put in his wallet. I also thought we could work on the whole delayed gratification principle by having to save his tickets up for something better rather than spending them on something not as good.
We are about a week and a half in to our experiment and he was pretty excited right away to earn the tow truck for 5 tickets, (although he did spend one ticket along the way for chocolate covered raisins). But not again a little mixed results. He does earn tickets and does save some of them up, and bought the boat for 3 tickets, but also has bought some more candy for 1 ticket.
I guess time will tell and we will keep thinking of ways to encourage our sticker smart little boy to behave.  Thoughts and suggestions appreciated :).
