We spent the 4th of July in Ashland this year, and had a nice day. We started with the parade. We rode our bikes downtown and found some friends, got some candy and did a bunch of waving. We told X that he had to wave at the floats if he wanted them to throw him candy. I think that as he was waving he was wiggling more than sophie when she sees a shotgun or running leash (if you've never seen sophie picture a tail waggin', booty shakin' machine :).
After the parade we found some hot dogs and brats from the Lions club and then rode home. We had a rest and then headed out on the boat. We were excited to get Evie and her family back on the boat. The wind was a bit much, but out of the South, so we were able to head along the shore to Onion River beach. This was a new beach for us, but a great find. A nice big sandy beach with few people.
Then home for supper and back downtown for the fire run. We had never been to the fire run before, and had never heard of it before Ashland. All of the fire trucks and police cars ride down main street at 9:45 at night flashing their lights and sirens. I think it evolved a bit because the parade started with cops, then to firetrucks and ended with tow trucks, so I think anything with flashing lights is a go. It was fun to see. Then we headed off to a hillside by the lake to watch the fireworks. A fun full day.
